Top 20 Best Blindside Songs – Editors Choice
To follow up my post on the Top 20 Blindside songs, here is a list of my personal favorite Blindside songs. Some of these songs are on that Top 20 list, some aren’t. When you get into a band, and really dive deep into their music, sometimes you favorite songs that maybe you didn’t like at first but after several listens you do. Similar to the Top 20 list posted earlier, this list is chalk full of songs from the album Silence and on to Blindside’s latest release, 2011’s With Shivering Hearts We Wait.
For as much of a fan as I am, I never really got into the band’s first two albums. It’s as if the band transformed into amazing starting on Silence in 2002. Silence is a very, very special album to me and so almost half the songs on that album are on this list. The follow up to Silence, 2004’s About A Burning Fire is also very good, though it seemed the band lost focus and tried to shoot for the mainstream. The band came back quickly with 2005’s The Great Depression which seemed like a mix of the sound and feel of Silence, some of the more mainstream sounds of About A Burning Fire and also some new musical elements and experimentation. The Great Depression is probably the band’s most underrated album, as it gets better with each listen. From 2005 to 2011, the band only released one EP, entitled The Black Rose EP in 2007. It took me more time to get into these songs than any other Blindside release but I have to say that the entire EP is outstanding if given a chance. The song construction is more complex, so as harder to get a grasp of the song with the first few initial listens. The band returned in 2011 with what I believe to be their best record besides Silence, 2011’s With Shivering Hearts We Wait. This critically acclaimed album has everything a standout album needs; instantly catchy songs, songs that grow and grow, songs that showcase the progression of the band’s musical talent and inspiration, and an overall feel and cohesion. I hope the success of this album keeps Blindside together as a band so they continue to make the amazing music they do.
