Alternative Music Week In Review: 4/3/2017 – 4/9/2017

There were a lot of excellent singles released this week so the ones that made the #Featured5 post this week should go over well. If you are a commoner to the site, you know I don’t feature pop music much but this debut song from the now solo Harry Styles is quite good. I almost named it Song of the Week but the new Feist took that honor. Out of nowhere Jack White releases a new instrumental-only single which will be featured at Detroit Tigers games. Listen to these and the rest of the best new singles below. Continue on to all the best new albums, music videos, and live performances as you scroll down the post. Share your opinions in the comments section at the end of the post.

New Single Releases

The day for new music is definitely Fridays. Why? Because bands release new singles to Spotify, Youtube, and other channels on this day. So, each Friday Music Trajectory listens to all the new music and updates the Best New Music in 2017 playlist, then proceeds to post the ‘Featured 5’ singles of the week to the site and social media channels. Here is a look back at Friday’s #Featured5 singles:

  • Harry Styles formerly of One Direction releases debut single “Sign of the Times” and its a doozy (surprisingly)
  • Jack White surprises and delights with new instrumental single “Battle Cry”
  • Super group DREAMCAR release 2nd single “Born To Lie” from highly anticipated debut album
  • Feist drops excellent 2nd single “Century” with help from Jarvis Cocker
  • Indie rock/hip-hop band Flobots also drop their 2nd single “Carousel”

Song of the Week

Hey Feist fans, which of these two first singles do you like more? Sound off in the comments section or tweet me @MusicTrajectory

I was a bit bored by lead single “Pleasure” but I thought it was cool the lead single was also the name of the upcoming album, which happens to be due out on 4/28 via Universal Records. Pleasure will be Feist’s 5th studio album.

“Century” is a bit more upbeat and spunky and reminds me of some of the songs of 2nd album The Reminder, most notably album standout “I Feel It All”.

I liked “Century” so much, I believe its the Song of the Week up against the rest of the competition: Featured 5 and all other new singles released this week.

Purchase “Century” on Amazon here and a small commission will be paid to me which helps me keep this site up.

Someone who will lead you to someone
Who will lead you to someone
Who will lead you to the one
At the end of the century

Best Song In The World

Sometimes a song comes along that is so damn good, it needs to be recognized for just how awesome it is. A song is deemed #BSITW until another one comes along and dethrones it.

Current reigning Best Song of the World is “Starboy” by The Weeknd
