The 20 Best Iron Maiden Solos
Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, and Janick Gers: the three guitarists from Iron Maiden are the writers of some of the best metal riffs and solos of all-time. This particular blog post looks at the best solos of their careers. That’s right, I have scoured the entire Iron Maiden discography and here present the 20 best Iron Maiden solos.
Before I get to the list, let me first say that pretty much every Maiden song has a great solo or two in it. The solos picked for this list are the special ones; the ones that make you play along with your air guitar; the ones that stand out from the rest; the ones that blow your mind.
How to use this post:
- Click on the “solo time” link to be taken to a Youtube video of the song
- The song will start playing right at the part in the song where the solo is
- Marvel at the awesomeness

Stranger in a strange land didn’t even make the list? Absurd!! And Hallowed… should be among the top 5. Your list is hogwash!
Ha! Well, disagreeance is better than nothing. What is your list?
Prodigal Son
My favorite Iron Maiden solos aren’t really solos…. just massive guitar jams. And generally have some Steve Harris galloping bass lines as well:
The last minute of 22 Acacia Avenue
Intro to Killers
Phantom of the Opera
Stranger in a Strange Land
The Number of the Beast
And a zillion songs where there’s a long slow instrumental introduction to a blistering song, e.g These Colours Don’t Run., Dance Of Death, etc….
The “Prowler” solo is one of my all time favourite solos. The three notes kicking it of is like throwing your car into gear, and just blasting away!
Another solo I enjoy, which is not on your list, is “Phantom Of The Oprea” with the melodic intro. However, this does not work without the rythm guitar. Some live clips leave this out, rendering it boring.
