Song of the Week | Cage the Elephant “Whole Wide World” | Week of 6/26/2017

At first I thought this new Cage the Elephant album Unpeeled was going to be a true studio album but as I dug deeper, I realize now it is a live album of sorts, featuring covers and acoustic versions of their own songs. Lead single “Whole Wide World” is originally by a singer called Wreckless Eric from his 1978 self-titled album.

This did seem like a bit of a short turn around time from their last album, 2015’s Grammy Award Winning album Tell Me I’m Pretty. We will most likely get a true studio album from the band sometime next year.

“When I was a young boy, my mama said to me:
“There’s only one girl in the world for you, and she probably lives in Tahiti”
I’d go the whole wide world, I’d go the whole wide world, just to find her
Or maybe she’s in the Bahamas, where the Caribbean Sea is blue
Weeping in a tropical, moonlit night because nobody’s told about you”
